Vote for “an electrifying listen”

As the year winds down, we thank you for supporting Long Lead and for spreading the word about our in-depth, longform journalism. Word of mouth makes a difference, and we’d love your help one last time in 2022.
Our podcast Long Shadow: 9/11’s Lingering Questions is nominated in the Best History category for the Signal Awards. We need your vote! Unlike many other outlets, Long Lead isn’t part of a media conglomerate. We’re a small but mighty operation, and the recognition awards provide help more people discover our high-quality work.
Long Shadow, hosted by Garrett Graff, was a #1-ranked podcast that garnered hundreds of 5-star reviews on Apple Podcasts. The Financial Times called it “rigorous, authoritiative, and an electrifying listen.” This is its first nomination for an award, and winning would allow Long Lead to bring the show to thousands of new listeners — so please vote!

Over the past year, Long Lead’s work has been honored with several major prizes, including:
The Webby Award for Best Sports Site for The Depths She’ll Reach, a moving profile of world-champion freediver Alenka Artnik, written by Xan Rice with stunning underwater videography from Daan Verhoeven
Inclusion in Triumph Books’ “The Year’s Best Sports Writing” anthology for The Depth She’ll Reach
Site of the day awards from both Awwwards and CSS Winner for Querdenken Everything, an interactive feature written by Darren Loucaides and featuring illustrations by Jun Chen that explores the 2020 storming of the German Reichstag and how it was fomented by COVID misinformation
And we’ll soon have even more award news to share — but we’ve been sworn to secrecy pending the announcement. (We’ll be able to share more on that in the spring.)
While all this recognition has been incredible, we’re even more excited about The People Vs. Rubber Bullets, our most ambitious project to date. A six-part series chronicling five decades of misuse of less-lethal projectiles, this multimedia feature combines hundreds of images and videos with gripping stories of people who were shot, injured, disfigured, and even killed by these law enforcement tools. The first five parts are available to read — for free, and ad-free — on our website, right now.
As Long Lead moves into 2023, we look forward to concluding this breathtaking series, and producing even more groundbreaking journalism. We have several projects in the pipeline that we will be rolling out soon, including a return to the first medium Long Lead published in… that’s right, another podcast! Stay tuned for more details on that, very soon.
Until then, have a safe and happy new year, and as always, thanks for reading…
